My personal watercolor exhibition will be held at Place des Arts in 2025. The exhibition contract has been signed between I and Place des Arts in April 2024.
After starting watercolor painting for years, I came up with an idea of holding a personal watercolor exhibition a year ago to increase my exposure to the public, and to make effort to the promote watercolor painting in local community with adding my color to the spectrum of the art community.
In terms of ownership, art galleries in Vancouver are basically divided into two types: non-profit and for-profit. For-profit ones can easily find available spaces and make exhibitions at any time, but they have two disadvantages: high fees for renting a space and a small group of audience. On the contrary, non-profit galleries are much more well-known and expense free for exhibition. However, due to the large number of applicants, non-profit galleries have to go through strict evaluation and screening by art jury. Only those identified reaching the appropriate standards can be accepted for exhibitions after a long-time waiting in the list on the exhibition schedule.

Founded in 1972 and located in Coquitlam in eastern Vancouver, Place des Arts is a non-profit arts institution with a strong presence in the eastern Vancouver area. After I applied in February 2024, Place des Arts approved my exhibition plan in April 2024 and offered the largest of its three exhibition rooms, the Leonore Peyton Salon, as my exhibition space. It is scheduled a year later from April 4 2025 to May 22, 2025.
The theme of my exhibition is “Invitation to the City“.I paint with passion trying to harness the spirit of watercolor, in order to create exciting pictures with the atmosphere of vivid urban life. The goal is to invite the audience into the picture to enjoy the excitement of city scenes and allow them to imagine themselves as part of the painting and feel the moods conveyed in them.
I hope through the diverse of art expression with watercolor in my paintings, people can feel inspired to find the loveliness of city life on streets, in their neighborhood, and during city walking etc. People would enjoy their life living in the city and get the invitation in their heart to travel to other cities to feel the happiness resulted from the diversity of city culture.
As the date of the exhibition approaches, preparation works are under way. The list of all the works to be exhibited will be confirmed in March 2025. Currently the official website of Place des Arts date only shows the time schedule and place of the exhibition, but the theme and details of the exhibition will be announced in March 2025.
